Bardo Thödol
Life, Death and Rebirth under a Buddhist Perspective

Bardo is known to the world in the Text of “Bardo Thodol”, which means “Liberation Through Hearing During the Intermediate State”. The original text is traced back to the 8th century. The text, which is considered as Guru Padmasambhava’s treasure trove of teachings, helps us reach the most profound and comprehensive understanding of life as well as that of death. In addition, it reveals the path to liberate life and death transcendently.
In order to preserve, maintain, and promote the Dharma for the benefits of all sentient beings, Guru Padmasambhava hid many secret Dharma treasures in many remote and unknown locations throughout the region, and the secret signs of those treasures are discovered at the appropriate times by the Tertons. Bardo Thodol is one of those secret treasures. Although the Text was taught by Guru Padmasambhava and written down by his disciple Dakini Yeshe Tsogyal in the 8th century, the secret treasure was hidden and it was not until the 14th century that the famous Terton Karma Lingpa discovered it on a sacred mountain in the Himalayas when he was only 15 years old.
Essentially, Bardo is a treasure trove of teaching that we need to learn and realize. Bardo is a real process which includes samsara and nirvana, suffering and enlightenment. Therefore, Bardo teachings are considered as the key to open up the Secret Art of Life and Death. The Teaching is revealed to the public by H.E. Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche.

Dewachen – The Pureland of Amitabha Buddha

The Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha is in fact a unique place. There are Pure Lands in all four directions – East, West, South, and North, and in the center. In all of them, Amitabha Buddha’s Pure Land is the easiest place to arrive and therefore it is very special. With a special aspiration to reborn in the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, we can accomplish the transference of our consciousness to that realm. The power of prayers, the power of a devotional and fervent aspiration are all that required. In connection to our world, Amitabha Buddha’s Pure Land is in the West and above our world. We must accept the cosmology theory and become aware of many world systems throughout the space.
Generally, we can say that any sentient being hearing the name of Amitabha Buddha, making a wish to reborn in the Dewachen realm and engaging in the practice can be reborned in Dewachen realm. Anyone who has accumulated negativity of five serious offenses finds it difficult to achieve. However, if those serious sinners practice intensively, they still have the chance to reborn in Amitabha Buddha’s Dewachen Pure Land. H.E. Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche compassionately teaches this topic to the public.
